Battle: Los Angeles & Other Great Trailer Music
Having things in common with your work colleagues isn’t always a bad thing. Something that me and Tom Procter, tech/design whizz at PushON, have in common is a huge love for music, of all varieties and genres and, after today it seems, film too.
Tom mentioned that he had seen the new Battle: Los Angeles trailer earlier and it made me take notice that we talked about it for a few minutes without even discussing the actual film itself; in my opinion a very risky, but often very positive thing. He discussed the music that the trailer was juxtaposed with, showing slow motion scenes of terror and global destruction to a disjointed (yet beautiful) soundtrack, almost that of a broken robot.
- It turns out that the music is by Icelandic musician Johann Johannsson who has also taken it upon himself to write the music for the entire film & by the sounds of it should be a blinder of a soundtrack
- On top of this, the geek in me has got excited that the possibility that a repeat of the social media storm that came about when Cloverfield came out in 2008 or District 9 came out in 2009
- Be sure to follow its progress with the hashtag #battlela
When watching this trailer I couldn’t but be reminded by one of my favourite trailers in recent times, that belonging The Social Network. The juxtaposition of the music, although not as extreme in nature as the Battle: Los Angeles, to me shows a dream sequence-like portrayal of the film that touches you on a different level that the norm.
- This film, you may remember, also had a blinder of a soundtrack by Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, if you’ve neither heard this or seen the trailer/film, I’d highly recommend both
